about
I was playing around with the chords to a Daniel Johnston song and ended up making a demo. The intention was to just show the basics of my idea and maybe finish it with someone else, or maybe use the bones to make an entirely new song.
I sent the track to John Kachnowski (currently in Killer Diller, formerly of the Exceptions) thinking maybe we would write an instrumental together around my rhythm tracks. Instead he sent me back a few gorgeous trombone tracks weaving around my scratch vocals and I loved it.
And so, here's a song I like a lot. I didn't intend to cover it, but the universe wasn't going to let me take my voice off this. After John sent his tracks I didn't add any additional production other than effects in the mixing stage. The vocals are my original one-take scratch vocals. If I had redone them knowing this song would actually be released, I probably would've ruined it.
